Biography of H. W. (Dub) McClish, Jr.

 

FAMILY BACKGROUND: Born 2/8/38. Native Texan, son of a Gospel preacher, son-in-law of a Gospel preacher, father of a Gospel preacher, grandson of an elder. Wife, Lavonne, is a native Tennesseean, daughter of the late B.B. and Mildred James. Three children: one daughter—Bronwen Gibson (4/11/58); two sons— H.W., III (Hal)  (7/13/61); Andrew James (Andy) (12/21/62). Seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

EDUCATION: Attended high schools at Burnet, TX, and Boise, ID. After three years of high school, completed three-year Bible major at Freed-Hardeman College, Henderson, TN (1954–57). Received B.A. degree (Bible major, music minor) from Abilene Christian College, 1959. Some graduate study.

LOCAL PREACHING:  Emmett, ID; Tuscaloosa, AL; Louisville, KY; Carlsbad, NM; Wichita Falls, Iowa Park, San Antonio, San Angelo, Granbury, and Denton, TX (Pearl St., Denton, TX 10/26/80-8/31/92).

EVANGELISTIC WORK: USA: 23 states; OTHER NATIONS: Jamaica, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Russia, England.

MISCELLANEOUS: Speaker on most major congregational/preaching school lectureships and on several college lectureships. Speaker on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 11th, 19th Annual Asian Bible Lectures in Singapore and Malaysia. Speaker on 1st and 2nd Annual Manila, Philippines, Lectures. Graduation speaker, Brown Trail Preacher Training School, Spring Bible Institute, Memphis School of Preaching. Special lecturer: Southwest School of Bible Studies, Spring Bible Institute, Southern Sumatra Bible College (Indonesia), Brown Trail Preacher Training School, and Florida School of Preaching. Numerous articles have appeared in various publications, including Christian Worker, Contending for the Faith, Firm Foundation, Gospel Advocate, The Restorer, Shield of Faith, The Spiritual Sword, Words of Truth, Power, Defender, and others. Articles have appeared in hundreds of church bulletins throughout the nation. Contributed one or more chapters to more than 160 books. Author of two tracts. Director of all ANNUAL DENTON LECTURES (1982–2002). Editor and publisher of all twenty-one ANNUAL DENTON LECTURES books. Editor of books of first two ANNUAL SCHERTZ LECTURES (2003–2004), successor to ANNUAL DENTON LECTURES. Extensive radio preaching experience. Has directed and/or taught in Christian camps in five states. Toured Bible lands twice. Participated in (and published) oral debate with Dan Billingsly on amenability of sinners to the law of Christ (1986). Founder and President, Valid Publications, Inc., dedicated to publication and distribution of Scripturally sound books, Bibles, and tracts, 1982–2003 (sold in 2003). Founding Editor, The Gospel Journal, 2000–2005.

REVIEW OF WORK TO PRESENT: Preached first sermon in June 1954 at Boise, Idaho, at age 16. After 35 years of work as local preacher in 5 states (the last 12 years of which were with the Pearl St. Congregation, Denton, TX), began work under oversight of Pearl Street elders in 1992, devoting time to combined works of Gospel meetings, mission trips, and lectureships and to writing and editing sound Biblical materials. Served under oversight of the elders, Roanoke, Texas, Church of Christ, May 2003–August 2005. Has served under elders, Spring, Texas, Church of Christ, since August 2005. Helped with establishment of Northpoint Church of Christ, Denton, Texas, September 2005, for which he preaches (gratis) when he is not traveling. Lavonne has served as his personal assistant in these endeavors.
